Bill has been a client of BBVA Compass for over 10 years and I have personally known him for the past 2 years. In addition, several of our bank’s advisory board directors have known Bill for many years. Until recently, we had not been given the opportunity to provide financing to Morris Capital Partners on a real estate transaction; however, approximately 18 months ago, Bill brought us an opportunity to finance the acquisition of Longview Plaza, a well located power center in Longview, Texas. Bill and I worked closely on the acquisition, redevelopment, rebranding and repositioning of La Palmara, Trademark’s highly successful mall investment with CalPERS and turned out to be one of the best investments in Trademark’s long history. I have known Bill Morris for almost 30 years. Bill and I have worked closely on several occasions but most notably on Bradford Plaza in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Bill was able to purchase a well located shopping center across from the Oklahoma State University football stadium out of receivership. The Retail Connection was also pursuing the acquisition of the center at the same time but elected to withdraw from the running late in the game. With my deep exclusive relationships with the retailers, I was able to confidently bring those retailers, such as JoAnne’s and TJ Maxx to the table for Bill because I knew that Bill is a man of his word and does what he says he will do.
